UI/UX Designer /Team Project

Brief

This is project for CHI 2016 Student Design Competition.  We interviewed homebound Alzheimer's patients and their caregivers and applied affinity wall to analyze their problems.  We conducted Iterative developing method and tested with members with memory-loss problem. In the end, and social online collaborative coloring activities was designed for Alzheimer's patient and volunteers.

Background studies

Interviews and Findings

Two caregivers and two patients between the ages of 70 and 85 were interviewed. After then, an affinity wall  was built to analyze the data to retrieve findings from our interviews. The findings that further have an impact on our design are:

  • Both Alzheimer’s patients and their families need social support. They desire interactions with people and the environment.
  • They join exercise classes, go out for meals and enjoy the energy of nature to simulate that they are still engaged in the society socially and actively.
  • Patients cannot make decisions by themselves. Thus, to give guidance, caregivers are usually being interrupted from their daily activities by the patients.
  • Caregivers spend most of their time with patients and don’t have much time for themselves.
  • When their beloved one was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s, caregivers don’t have much time to spend with their friends. Moreover, their friends would intentionally abandon them.
