Project Introduction
This is a data visualization platform for business analysts, data scientists and product managers to generate insights and make business decision for GE regarding to future trends and impact of an event. Depending on the questions that different businesses hope to be answered through the tool, we customized the tool to fulfill their needs.
How it works
My contribution
I built up the design foundation, including color plan, interaction and common UI element. Therefore, the later projects could leverage these features directly. In addition, I designed the data visualization from scratch with a team regarding to the questions they want to be answered through data.
(Because the project is confidential, only high level design process are presented here. Please contact me if you are interested in the project.)
Design Challenge
Complex information and multiple usages
Two types of users will use the tool - composers and readers. For composers, they want to put as more information on the diagram as possible, so they can refer to when discussing with others. While readers might be overwhelmed by the information and loss in the diagram. Therefore, how to generate the information hierarchy and help different types of user to navigate the diagram as they need is the key in the project.

Scenarios & User Needs
Final Color Scheme
At first, to make the interface look calm, I chose monotonous harmony. However, we got feedback from user, the color fades out on their displays. To increase the readability for lower resolution display, I’ve tried several different approaches, such as increasing hue, opacity and contrast of the color. In the end, inspired by Google’s color scheme for sankey diagrams, I adopted the complementary harmony and solve the color problem.
Final Design
